208 n. Chr.: Der Premierminister des Reiches Han, Cao Cao (Zhang Fengyi), wähnt sich siegessicher. Da bricht unter seinen 800'000 Soldaten eine Typhus-Epidemie aus. Er lässt die Leichen jedoch nicht verbrennen, sondern schickt sie in Richtung seiner nichtsahnenden Feinde Zhuge Liang (Takeshi Kaneshiro) und Zhou Yu (Tony Leung) von den Reichen Sun und Wu. Tatsächlich fordert die Seuche nun auch dort Menschenleben, weshalb Sun-Führer Liu Bei (You Yong) die Allianz verlässt und seine getreuen Generäle Zhao Yun (Hu Jun), Guan Yu (Ba Sen Zha Bu) und Zhang Fei (Zang Jingsheng) gleich mitnimmt. Nur Zhuge bleibt zurück, um Wu-Führer Sun Quan (Chang Chen) beizustehen. Cao Cao glaubt sich am Ziel und setzt seine Flotte in Bewegung. Im Wu-Camp stacheln sich Zhuge und Zhou derweil zum Unmöglichen an: Der eine soll 100'000 Pfeilbögen anfertigen, der andere soll die Han-Admiräle Cai Mao (Yi Zhen) und Zhang Yun (Jia Hongwei) töten. Wer keinen Erfolg hat, wird geköpft ...
